Ecosystem and "Smashing Apps" In Mrs. Schmucker's Class

Smashing Apps defined:  Combining several apps to create a presentation.

Mrs. Schmucker's 3rd grade class has been studying animals and their ecosystems. To show what they know, they created the following presentations.
The apps they used to "smash" and present were: Chatterpix, Yakit Kids, Strip Designer and Aurasma.  Check them out, they are full of great information!
When everyone was finished we tried guessing the ecosystems of all the animals first on paper then we grabbed our iPads to scan them to check if our guesses were right.
What an awesome way to learn!
These are the apps we used.

Mrs. Lang's 4th Graders Using Popplet Lite

Mrs. Lang's class has been studying the life cycle of a plant. They used the Popplet Lite app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/popplet-lite/id364738549?mt=8

to demonstrate what they know. Super job 4th grade!

Aurasma Book Reviews

We had fun making book reviews with picture books. We wrote the reviews, videotaped ourselves telling about the book. When other students are curious about the books, they can listen to the video of our 6th grade students reviewing the book.

There is a new app that lets us add a video and link it to a book, it is called Aurasma. http://www.aurasma.com/#/partner

So when a student "scans" the book (similar to a QR code) the video pops up. Isn't technology amazing?  These kids did a pretty amazing job on their reviews!

Mrs. Schmucker's Class Made Sport Themed Bookmarks

Reading is fun and sports are fun, so we combined them and made bookmarks of us showing one of our favorite activities.

Mrs. Schmucker's class loves being active. These are just a few of our favorite sports!

Learning To Type

The Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders are learning to type using the game based program called: Keyboarding Without Tears, http://www.hwtears.com/kwt They are doing a great job and having fun!

Author Tricia Springstubb made our first Skype exciting!

Our day with author Tricia Springstubb.

We had a great day! Tricia even read her book Phoebe and Digger to our K-3 classes.  We even got to meet her cat during our Skype!
Tricia also Skyped with the 3rd-5th grade students as well as the 6th and 7th grades.
Students had the opportunity to order her books and have them personalized and signed by Author Springstubb. Thank you for "coming to Kansas" Tricia!
